Privileged

I don’t think I realize day to day how privileged I actually am. Yeah I have my problems like everyone else, but are they really that big of a deal? If you think about it someone always has it worse than you.

I’m definitely guilty of taking my privileges for granted. I have the privilege of going to college, living in a nice house, having a car, good friends, and family. I mean yeah I complain about homework, wish my car was nicer, and think my friends and family are annoying sometimes but if that’s the worst of my worries I guess you could say I have it pretty good. There are people out there who can’t afford cars, school, and may not have a family.

Growing up my mom has always told me not to compare myself to others. Why didn’t I have as much money as her? Why was she prettier than me? The list goes on and on. Now I know why she told me this, there will always be someone who is better than you. You can’t be the best at everything, and you will make yourself miserable comparing your life to someone else’s life.

I am so blessed to be as privileged as I am. Right now I’m sitting outside on my balcony typing on my mac book. Before I started writing this blog I was complaining about bugs and the fact that my laptop was dead and I had to walk all the way downstairs to go get my charger. I know what your thinking my life is rough (that was a joke). After writing this blog I am starting to think about all of the other privileges I receive every day.

  1. It is so funny how after reading these articles about privilege and actually think about privilege, that we start to think of how we are privileged everyday. When I was younger, I was told by my parents the same thing; to not compare ourselves to others because everyone is different. I wrote about a privilege that use everyday, technology. I really like knowing that other people besides myself know that we all have some sort of privilege. I totally agree with you in your article on how privileged you are to have the life you live. I am so greatful to have the family I have and the accessories or thngs we feel we "need" but just really "want" in my life. I think that since we have focused on what privileges we have, I will focus more now on not complaining to the things that seem tough in my life when actually it could be worse.
